i am trans, i am holy, i am my own god, i made my own body

Transcendence, transfiguration, transmutation, transgender. There is a certain magic that comes from moving across, through, and beyond. A limitlessness in the alteration, to have transness is to grow past what is given, to seek something more. In my reflection on my own identity, I’ve found myself seeking out my own form of god as I tumble through what it is I want my body to be, to look like, to become. I find myself turning inwards for this deity; not outwards towards a religion, but rather towards the power I hold to become whatever it is I see myself to be. Gender exploration unlocks this sense of freedom, of malleability of the body and identity in a way that almost feels equivalent to god-like power. What other forms of “trans-” do we find ourselves in? What are we if not focused on an outcome, but rather the process to get there How can we hold onto the feeling of going beyond what a stereotypical god has told us to be? If spirituality is typically viewed within a heteronormative and cisnormative lens, what magic can we create with a trans framework?

To quote Lee Harrington and Tai Fenix Kulystin in Queer Magic: Power Beyond Boundaries, “We found that queer flowers of love and beauty are blooming everywhere. We are pushing our way through the cracks in the concrete and carving out spaces for our weird and word ways to manifest.”
