Accordion Echoes at Piano Craft

Accordion Echoes at Piano Craft

Join Slovenian accordionist Jakob Kobal and special guests for an intimate evening of music that crosses borders and genres.

Rooted in classical training and shaped by his time at Berklee College of Music, Jakob brings a deeply personal voice to the concert accordion. The program features an original intimate blend of classical and baroque fire, jazz soul, tango passion, world music, and more — including some of Jakob’s own compositions that explore themes of path, peace, and silence.

Come experience the resonant beauty of accordion and ensemble in the warm, artistic space of Piano Craft Gallery.

Jakob Kobal

Jakob Kobal is a Slovenian accordionist, composer, and multimedia engineer based in Boston. He completed his classical accordion studies at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana, while simultaneously pursuing a degree in Multimedia Engineering at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Computer and Information Science. His engineering thesis, “Fundamental Frequency Recognition in a Chord,” earned the highest possible grade and included the creation of his own algorithm for real-time chord recognition from audio recordings. He is also an active educator.

He later continued his musical development at Berklee College of Music, where he broadened his artistic voice across classical and contemporary music, jazz, tango — with a special focus on Piazzolla — as well as gypsy and folk traditions. Passionate about the concert accordion’s vast expressive potential, Jakob is especially drawn to original composition and the seamless blending of musical worlds. A co-founder of the MediBa Quartet and founder of the Berklee Piazzolla Ensemble, Jakob is deeply engaged in collaborative work. He has performed with the Boston Civic Symphony and at major venues including Jordan Hall and Regattabar.

His work reflects a lifelong curiosity at the intersection of music and technology. Tonight’s program is a personal journey through these many influences, voiced through the rich, resonant sound of the accordion.
