Julia works in the Mills Gallery which is part of Boston Center for the Arts where she helps artists and curators with their exhibitions in the gallery and leads the organization of the Boston Art Book Fair. She brings the work of multidisciplinary artists to the public and engages a growing community of artists in Boston. Julia co-directs Byte Footage, a curatorial project and art festival based in Buenos Aires, Argentina that explores the Latinoamerican artistic appropriation and use of images, sounds, and materials that are part of the infinite Internet archive. Byte Footage takes different forms: festivals, exhibitions, workshops, and talks.Julia will be joining Virginia in the gallery to discuss the motivations behind her current curatorial projects and her work engaging multiple audiences across different continents. Mekhi studies Art Education at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and currently creates artworks across multiple mediums, including charcoal drawing, acrylic painting, and digital photography. Mekhi is involved with multiple arts organization in the greater Boston area, including the Addison Gallery of American Art and the Essex Art Center. Mekhi will join Virginia in the gallery to present images of his current artwork along with a discussion of his artistic journey, creative process, and experiences as an arts educator. November 19, 2023 3:00-3:45PMAryanna Martinez (she/they) is a Puerto Rican multidisciplinary artist living and working in Massachusetts. Ary studies Art Education at Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she explores experimental modes of community education and ideas of utopia through nature and digital media. Ary will be presenting, alongside Virginia, an afternoon of healing stretching, breathing exercises, open artistic dialogue, and discussions of the body represented in their personal artwork.
